      The HIP partnership is a pipeline of education and healthcare career development aimed at eliminating the achievement gap and increasing representation in healthcare careers for under-represented population groups in Northeastern Ohio.

       HIP began as an initiative to improve the ability to recruit and retain minority residents and faculty at Summa Health Care in 1997. It developed into a multi-year hospital visit and shadowing program for students in the Akron Public School System. HIP then progressed into a multi-institutional and collaborative program in 2000 providing numerous healthcare experiences for all Akron Public School students.
